MQM-P to take to streets over ‘injustice’ against Karachi, says Mustafa Kamal

Mustafa Kamal, the Federal Health Minister and leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), has declared that his party will demonstrate in the streets against the “injustices” that Karachi and its citizens endure.

Kamal blasted the Sindh government for its lack of concern for the city and its citizens during a press conference on Saturday in Karachi.

“MQM-P has decided that it will no longer remain silent,” Kamal stated, noting that the party has brought up the matter in assemblies and suggested constitutional revisions but had not received the expected reaction.

He said that the party would now make use of all constitutional and legal tools at its disposal, including joining Karachi residents in the streets.

Additionally, Kamal advocated for increased power devolution and the administrative establishment of new provinces. He maintained that there was no appropriate system in place for allocating resources to union councils and that cash allotted to Sindh did not efficiently reach districts.

The Sindh government, according to the MQM-P leader, is keeping Karachi from contributing to Pakistan’s economic growth. Despite its significance to the national economy, he questioned why the biggest economic center in the nation was being held back.

According to Kamal, Karachi ought to have led Pakistan’s development and assisted the nation in overcoming its economic difficulties. While Lahore’s progress was great, he continued, Karachi ought to have been the first city to see significant development.

Additionally, he attacked the province government for failing to provide basic municipal amenities, saying that Karachi still lacked schools, potable water, and proper sewage infrastructure. Additionally, he said that a number of girls’ institutions lacked even the most basic lavatory facilities.
