– Both houses of Parliament have been summoned today in separate sessions to give constitutional approval to the emergency imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the governor’s rule in the province.

Today, the Senate and National Assembly will table resolutions for approval and endorsement of the emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The National Assembly session is set to begin at 11am and the Senate session at 4pm, parliamentary sources said.

An eight-point agenda has been released for the session of the National Assembly. The agenda includes approval of a resolution on the imposition of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Both Houses will bring in resolutions to approve the emergency under Article 232 of the Constitution.

Meanwhile, a joint sitting of Parliament has been called for Thursday, October 15, at 11.30am. The session will formally approve imposition of governor’s rule in the province under Article 234 of the constitution.

The government has adopted constitutional measures and is going to seek parliamentary approval of them.

It may be noted that a parliamentary party meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting reviewed the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the next steps of the federal government.

The participants were briefed about the reasons for imposition of governor’s rule and emergency in the province.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also took the parliamentary party into confidence regarding the government’s future strategy.
