The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested 1,129 individuals during a month-long countrywide operation against cyber criminals and recovered Rs105.3 million and returned the amount to the victims.
The agency received 5,176 complaints last month, according to the agency’s monthly performance report published after Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi took over as director general of NCCIA.
4,491 enquiries were recorded on the complaints and after conclusion of the investigations, 272 cases were launched against the persons allegedly involved in the cybercrime.
The report highlighted the agency’s enforcement actions against cybercriminal activity, including its actions to recover money for victims.
“The protection of the citizens in the digital space is still the top priority of the agency,” stated NCCIA Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. He said the bureau will continue to vigorously enforce a zero-tolerance stance against cybercrime.
Rizvi further said that in the digital world which has become a part of national life, it is not just the obligation of law enforcement authorities to protect citizens, institutions and digital infrastructure but a critical national requirement.
