NDMA predicts extensive rain in northern Pakistan from July 7-10
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecast a fresh stretch of rain over various regions of the nation from July 7 to 10. The showers will hit Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Potohar region and the northeastern Punjab.
The NDMA said the weather system is likely to hit the northern sections of the country on Monday and cause rain with thunder and lightning in the affected areas over a period of four days.
Rain is also expected in parts of the areas around Indus River, Jhelum River, Chenab River, Ravi River and Sutlej River. The authorities said the rainfall could result in a minor increase in river flows and water inflows into the Tarbela Dam and Mangla Dam were also expected to increase.
At present there is no threat of big scale flooding of rivers due to expected rainfall, NDMA stated. But, water levels may rise in highland torrents and small seasonal streams.
The authorities also warned of waterlogging in low-lying urban areas, while landslides are possible in some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir during the forecast period.
