MQM Chairman Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has suggested that new administrative divisions are need for the stability of the country.

Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said this while talking to the North Nazimabad Residents Committee here on Sunday. He said that the demand for the establishment of additional provinces is not a new attitude of the MQM but has been there since the time when the MQM was a student organization.

He said in view of expanding population of Pakistan, the number of administrative units should be raised as it was necessary for stability of the country to strengthen the administrative structure in accordance with the needs of the people.

MQM-Pakistan leader stated Pakistan came into existence after the struggle and sacrifices of our forefathers. They arrived to the Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam where Karachi was the capital of the country, but, subsequently the shift of the capital and changes in the administrative structure generated complications about Karachi.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that Karachi was added in Sindh without taking people of Karachi on board and when provinces were restored no referendum or voting was done in this regard.

He said the desire for the formation of new provinces has never been confined to Karachi or Muhajir province. A Saraiki province can be created where Saraiki people live and a Hazara province can also be created, but there are many questions about the creation of a province for the Muhajir people.

He added there is a need to reassess the present provincial structure and distribution of authorities. The four provinces were created on linguistic grounds, which is why the notion of a common Pakistani identity is failing.
