Nullah Dek, Chenab and Jhelum rivers’ water levels rise, flood situation arising

— Official officials said that the water level in Nullah Dek and Chenab and Jhelum rivers has increased, causing flooding at many regions in Punjab.

Authorities stated considerable rise in water flow has been reported in different rivers and seasonal streams in the province which has caused low level flooding at some points and moderate flood condition in parts of the Jhelum river.

The water discharge at Kangra Bridge on Nullah Dek, a tributary of the Ravi River system, was 10,193 cusecs, putting the area in the low flood category.

Meanwhile, water levels also rose at Head Marala on Chenab River and inflows were reported at 110,355 cusecs while outflows were 88,082 cusecs. Officials said the river is still in the low flood category at the site.

A more dangerous scenario was recorded at Mangla on the Jhelum River with inflows reaching 133,000 cusecs and a moderate flood level being reported. The reservoir was still discharging water as per operational needs, authorities added.

The provincial authorities are constantly monitoring the state of the rivers as monsoon rains continue to influence water flows across the region. Emergency response services are also on watch to respond to any deterioration in the situation.

Water levels could continue to fluctuate depending on the rainfall in the river catchment areas and residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas were asked to stay alert, follow official instructions and take preventive measures.
