The Sindh Local Government Amendment Act 2026 special committee meeting came to an unresolved conclusion.

Sources claim that during the two-and-a-half-hour discussion, the government and opposition parties were at a standstill over a number of the bill’s contents.

Opposition lawmakers disputed the government’s assertion that some of their recommendations had been incorporated into the measure, claiming that none of their suggestions had been approved.

In a similar vein, the opposition claimed that their recommendations were requested after the government’s amendment bill was introduced in the assembly rather than during the measure’s drafting.

The Sindh Local Government Amendment Act 2026 is expected to be introduced in the House for approval on Monday or Tuesday, according to sources. The MQM has threatened to organize vigorous protests if their recommendations are not incorporated in the law.

Muhammad Farooq, a member of Jamaat-e-Islami, stated that the party does not support the appointment of administrators in local government organizations.
