Pakistan condemns Houthi strikes on Saudi Arabia, supports Kingdom’s right to self-defense

Pakistan on Tuesday condemned in the strongest terms the Houthi strikes on civilian and economic targets in Saudi Arabia, calling them a breach of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom and a threat to regional peace and security.

The Foreign Office spokeswoman said in a statement that Pakistan denounced the attacks “in the strongest possible terms”.

The spokesperson said such actions were a clear violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a major danger to peace and stability across the region.

Pakistan also warned that continued assaults could hinder attempts to reach a peaceful and sustainable conclusion to the situation in Yemen.

Islamabad reiterated its “steadfast support” to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and expressed unequivocal sympathy with the government and people of Saudi Arabia.

The Foreign Office also wished a quick recovery to those injured in the attacks.

“The Government of Pakistan fully supports the legitimate right of self-defense of Saudi Arabia in accordance with the UN Charter and international law,” the spokesperson added.

The declaration comes following Houthi missile and drone strikes on sites in Saudi Arabia, including civilian and commercial infrastructure, that resulted in injuries and fears of a further escalation in the region.

Pakistan stated it would continue all possible measures to foster enduring peace and stability in the region.

Pakistan has always maintained tight political, economic and strategic links with Riyadh and the current statement reiterates Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia’s security, while also urging a peaceful conclusion of the Yemen war.
