Pakistan’s gasoline prices are expected to rise in July.

The sources state that due to increasing international market pricing, there will be an anticipated increase of Rs 7 per litre for petrol and Rs 8 per litre for HSD.

For the past two weeks, the price of gasoline and HSD has increased internationally by $4.4 and $5.5 per barrel, respectively.

If the government increases the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) from the current Rs60 per liter, the increase in petrol prices may trigger more major price hikes domestically.

A fall in the global market has already led Pakistan to lower the price of petrol and HSD.

Since May 1, the price of gasoline has dropped by roughly Rs35 per litre, from about Rs294 on April 30 to about Rs 259.

The cost of HSD has also decreased, from over Rs290 in mid-April to about Rs268 per litre, or about Rs 22.

The PDL limit was increased to Rs80 per litre by the Finance Bill 2024.

Still, on June 13, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb declared that PDL would be raised step by step based on market trends in prices.
