PDMA issues a warning for Punjab’s second monsoon season.
The second wave of Monsoon rains is likely to kick off over Punjab tomorrow (Sunday) with authorities warning of torrential downpours, urban flooding and rising water levels in rivers, seasonal streams.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the weather system will continue active from July 19 to July 24 and is anticipated to cause heavy rain in brief spells that may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and urban areas.
Rainfall is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, and Chiniot.
Rain is also forecast in Noorpur Thal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.
The PDMA has predicted urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Multan and Faisalabad, while small streams, Nullah Lai and seasonal waterways in Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and northeastern Punjab are likely to witness a rise in water levels.
Local officials have issued safety instructions and urged residents to be abreast of weather forecasts, and avoid travelling unless essential during periods of severe rain.
