PEMRA Chairman Meets With President Asif Ali Zardari To Discuss Disinformation and Fake News

A culture of fact-checking and information verification needs to be promoted in order to prevent the dissemination of false information, as President Asif Ali Zardari has highlighted.

President Muhammad Saleem of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority visited him in Islamabad and gave him the PEMRA report 2021–2023. The President shared these opinions with Saleem.

In addition to maintaining the greatest standards of journalism, the President stated that the media should support the advancement of moral principles, harmony, and tolerance in society.

In his view, the media needed to be more responsible and helpful in influencing public opinion because contemporary communication technology had created new obstacles.

Concerning the dissemination of propaganda and false information, Asif Ali Zardari emphasized that there should be adherence to a code of behavior.

Developing a pool of skilled human resources and implementing contemporary techniques and technologies are two further ways he emphasized the need to increase PEMRA’s capability.

Along with softening the nation’s image, he believed that the media should help increase public understanding of socioeconomic difficulties.

The President was informed by PEMRA Chairman on PEMRA’s contributions to national media development and regulation, as well as its involvement in these endeavors.

To further fortify PEMRA, the president declared his support.
