The industrialised world has been urged by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to assist poor nations in escaping debt traps, which are primarily brought on by natural calamities brought on by climate change.
At the “SDG Moment 2024” panel discussion held in conjunction with the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, he was giving a speech.
According to the prime minister, climate change caused Pakistan to have the greatest flooding in its history in 2022, with an estimated 30 billion dollars in economic losses. He argued that wealthy and developed nations should help developing nations because they are the ones who should bear the burden of reducing carbon emissions.
The prime minister of Pakistan stated that efforts are being made to enrol the 25 million youngsters who are not currently enrolled in school. He claimed to have taken various ground-breaking steps to advance education and provide voice to marginalised groups in society while serving as Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Punjab.
Among these are the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, the biggest program of its kind in South Asia, which offers stipends for education both locally and overseas to hundreds of thousands of talented students from low-income families.
Furthermore, he brought up the creation of Daanish Schools, which serve gifted, impoverished, and orphaned kids exclusively. With their state-of-the-art facilities and top-notch faculty, these schools have produced a large number of doctors, engineers, and scientists.
He said that in addition to launching a skilled development program, his government also began offering vocational training in educational institutions.
In response to the events of 9/11, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan was confronted with terrorism in its most severe form, which was pushed from over the border and resulted in the deaths of about 80,000 Pakistanis. In the battle against terrorism, Shehbaz Sharif claimed that Pakistan has lost 150 billion dollars in economic value.
