Jahangir Khan Tareen, the patron-in-chief of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, has made the decision to resign from the party position and leave politics.
In a post on X, Tareen declared his choice, congratulating his opponents and expressing gratitude to everyone for their support throughout the previous election.
“The Pakistani people’s will is much respected by me. As a result, I have made the decision to step away from politics completely and resign from my role as Chairman of the IPP,” Tareen wrote.
He thanked everyone at the party and sent his best wishes their way. “By the Grace of Allah, I will continue to serve my country to the best of my ability in a private capacity,” the message said.
The head of the IPP ran in the last general election from both NA-149 Multan, where independent candidate Amir Dogar defeated him, and NA-155 Lodhran, where PML-N candidate Siddique Khan Baloch defeated him.
IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan expressed sorrow in response to this news and stated that Tareen will always be the IPP’s major sponsor. He went on to say that Tareen’s employment by any administration was an honour for it.
“I honour him and his charitable endeavours as a younger brother and IPP president. May Allah grant them prosperity, well-being, and safety. He continued, “Amen,” in a post on X.
Aleem Khan has won a sizable mandate from the voters after winning both NA-117 and PP-149, two constituencies for the provincial assembly in Lahore.
As to the official tallying, Aleem Khan became victorious in NA-117, obtaining 72,519 votes, comfortably leading his rival, Ali Ejaz Buttar, who received 31,586 votes.
In the same way, the IPP president secured victory in PP-149 with 51,756 votes. With 47,998 votes, independent candidate Hafiz Zeeshan Rasheed, his opponent, came in second.
