The National Assembly’s opposition leader has been selected by Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
It has been decided to designate Umar Ayub as the head of the opposition. He is expected to get the support of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). In addition, Umar Ayub serves as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s Central General Secretary.
Recall that Shehbaz Sharif, the President of the Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), was chosen to serve as Prime Minister during the National Assembly’s extraordinary session.
Members of the National Assembly cast 201 votes for Shahbaz Sharif and 92 votes for Umar Ayub, the candidate of the Sunni Ittehad Council, which is sponsored by the PTI.
Omar Ayub Khan, a lawmaker from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and a candidate for the prime minister position from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), previously criticised the ruling coalition in the National Assembly by calling the recently elected prime minister Shehbaz Sharif a creation of Form 47, a document that details unofficial results of a constituency.
PTI claimed, citing changes to Form 47s, that its mandate in the general elections on February 8 was stolen.
