The ruling coalition of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif suffered a significant blow when a 13-member bench of the Supreme Court, chaired by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, decided that the PTI is entitled to reserved seats.
The Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) ruling, which had backed the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to deny the SIC the reserved seats, was overturned by an 8-5 majority verdict given by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
The majority decision was opposed by Justice Jamal Mandokhail, Justice Naeem Afghan, Justice Yahya Afridi, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, and Justice Ameenuddin Khan.
