Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf filed a contempt of court petition over the cancellation of an official permit for a party gathering, but the Islamabad High Court dismissed the case.
The hearing on the plea for contempt of court against the deputy commissioner of Islamabad was presided over by Justice Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court.
During the hearing, PTI attorney Shoaib Shaheen provided the written ruling from the IHC on the plea for contempt of court pertaining to the suspension of the NOC (no-objection certificate) for the PTI demonstration.
The district administration had sent a notification to the high court on July 4, he told the court.
The lawyer continued by saying that, barely hours before the planned PTI gathering, the deputy commissioner had notified him at 1:30 am to suspend it.
Since their party rally was planned two days ago, the attorney contended that today was the first of Muharram. According to him, there was no such invitation sent to the PTI, despite the chief commissioner’s notification purporting to have summoned them for a meeting.
In response, Justice Sattar stated that the PTI ought to have appealed the deputy commissioner’s decision to revoke the rally’s authorization.
Since the collaboration of the parties was revealed, the attorney contended that punishment was due.
judgeJudge’s response was that the PTI could not start contempt of court proceedings on the basis of the current petition; if it wanted to appeal the ruling, it had to do so legally. In his capacity as a lawyer, he also counseled Shaheen.
The judge pointed out that the chief commissioner had suspended the Islamabad DC’s initial approval of the rally during the last hearing. The need for the PTI to contest the chief commissioner’s order was stressed by him.
After these discussions, the PTI’s contempt suit was dismissed by the court.
