Punjab acts against overcharging, overloading in transport ahead of Eidul Azha
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has decided to take severe action against overcharging, overloading and unfit public transport vehicles during the approaching Eidul Azha rush.
She directed the deputy commissioners and district police officers to conduct a comprehensive check of all buses and bus stations in the province.
The chief minister further directed that official fare lists must be displayed conspicuously on every bus and at terminals so that passengers are not fleeced.
Transport operators involved in overcharging have had their route permits and terminal licenses ordered to be cancelled by authorities. She also commanded to take off the road the vehicles without fitness certificates and enforce severe action against overcrowding.
She also stressed on the need to provide safe drinking water to the passengers at bus stations. The Transport Department has also started a helpline (1071) for citizens to lodge complaints relating to overcharging.
