The Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department has launched the first-ever portable X-ray service for wild animals in the province, a major step forward in wildlife healthcare.

A team of veterinarians of the contemporary Wildlife Hospital at Safari Zoo Lahore visited Lahore Zoo where they examined many wild animals for health by using the latest portable X-ray technology.

A fallow deer and a python were among the first creatures assessed on location with the portable technology, officials said, removing the need to bring animals to a veterinary hospital for diagnostic imaging.

The government said the new facility will provide quicker, safer and less stressful medical diagnoses and will reduce the risks involved in transferring wild animals.

Officials noted the effort will go a long way in improving the quality of veterinary care and treatment provided for animals in the zoological facilities of Punjab.
