Punjab has decided to introduce activity-based books for students up to Grade 5 from the new academic session in 2027, marking a major shift in the province’s primary-level teaching system.

According to PECTA officials, work on the new books has already begun in accordance with the revised curriculum. The books will be introduced from the 2027 academic session.

Officials said Punjab was preparing an activity-based learning system for students up to Grade 5 for the first time. Under the new system, greater emphasis will be placed on teaching students through activities instead of relying on traditional teaching methods.

According to PECTA officials, the objective of the new system is to move students away from the traditional rote-learning approach and promote their practical and creative abilities.

The activity-based books will encourage practical learning among students in primary classes, while providing children with greater opportunities to understand curricular content and relate it to real-life situations.

PECTA officials said the preparation of the books according to the new curriculum was already underway, and formal teaching through the new-style books would begin across Punjab from the 2027 academic session.
