In the cipher case, former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and former prime minister Imran Khan were both sentenced to ten years in prison by a special court created under the Official Secrets Act on January 30.

According to specifics, Shah Mehmood Qureshi requested that the January 30 ruling by the trial court be deemed unlawful in his petition against the conviction in the cipher case and submitted it to the IHC.

The plea claimed that the trial of the cipher case, which began on August 15, was conducted illegally and that procedural rules were broken.

It is crucial to note that Imran is said in the charge sheet of the Federal Investigation Agency to have never returned a diplomatic document related to the cipher issue. According to the PTI, the paper included a threat to remove Imran from his position as prime minister by the US.

In a cipher case from the previous year, Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi were on trial in Adiala Jail for ‘distorting’ the facts of the diplomatic cipher.

The two PTI leaders were charged with planning to utilize the cipher’s contents for illicit gain.

Under the Official Secrets Act, the first information report (FIR) was filed on August 15. It was noted on the Home Secretary’s complaint.

The report included nominations for former prime minister and foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, as well as mentions of former planning minister Asad Umar and former principal secretary Azam Khan.

The article said that Azam Khan and Asad Umar would also face consequences after it was determined by the authorities that they had also used the secret material improperly.
