SHC orders removal of illegal constructions from park land in Karachi
The Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered demolition of encroachments and unlawful constructions in a park in Karachi’s Scheme 33 and asked the authorities to return the land to its former condition.
The court gave the directions in a case filed against the occupation of park space and construction of buildings in Scheme 33, Sector 15-A.
In its ruling, the court directed Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to help the concerned authorities in removing the encroachments and restoring the park. It also sought a compliance report from Deputy Commissioner East and revenue officials by Jan. 20.
During the hearing, Advocate Usman Farooq, counsel for the petitioner, contended that the unauthorised constructions presented a hazard to human lives. He further stated that K-Electric installations were also available at the location.
Advocate Usman Farooq informed the court that K-Electric also sent a letter cautioning the dangers of the construction activities in the vicinity.
The suit sought immediate demolition of illegal buildings in Scheme 33, Sector 15-A and restraining the builder from carrying out further construction and booking of units in the building.
