Details: Mazari’s plea to have her name removed from the ECL was considered by IHC court Justice Saman Riffat Imtiaz.
Since Shireen Mazari is not an accused party in the £190 million case, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Rafi Maqsood told the court in March that the accountability bureau suggested removing her name from ECL.
According to the Assistant Attorney General, on March 27, the Prime Minister also provided notice via letter.
The cabinet has other things to do, so let the court handle this with the help of the government, stated Justice Saman Riffat Imtiaz.
Earlier on Tuesday, Shireen Mazari, the former Federal Minister for Human Rights and leader of the PTI, filed a request to have her name removed off the Exit Control List (ECL) with the Islamabad High Court.
The former federal minister declared that she will completely leave the PTI and politics shortly after the May 9 riots of the previous year.
Shireen Mazari denounced the May 9 riots on May 23, 2023, stating that she had always been against violence.
She gave her decision to leave politics as a result of her health worsening during her 12-day detention following the May 9 riots, in which demonstrators nationwide staged protests after former Prime Minister Imran Khan was taken into custody from the Islamabad court buildings.
Her name was taken off the ECL by an order issued by the IHC last year. In its decision on December 2, the court stated that Mazari was never declared to be an absconder.
The director general of Immigration and Passports was ordered by the IHC to have her name removed off the ECL, which places limits on people’s ability to travel.
