In order to further world peace, the United Nations was founded on October 24, 1945. Pakistan joined peacekeeping operations in 1960 after joining the UN on September 30, 1947.
The Pakistan Army has since been involved in many operations in 23 different nations.
Approximately 3,000 Pakistani peacekeepers are currently serving in operations in Somalia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Cyprus, and the Western Sahara. 235,000 Pakistani soldiers have served in 48 peace missions across 29 nations since 1960.
There have reportedly been 171 Pakistani soldiers killed in these missions, including 27 officers. Pakistan has also made an effort to include women in peacekeeping missions.
