Liaquat Ali Chatha, the commissioner of Rawalpindi who resigned from his position, made a startling “discovery” on Saturday when he admitted to being engaged in the manipulation of the Pakistan general elections of 2024. This added a another degree of controversy to the already contentious votes.

Accepting responsibility for what he called a “heinous crime,” Chatha accused Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and the Election Commission of Pakistan of being involved in the “rigging,” a charge that all parties rejected.

According to specifics, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has been requested to provide a transcript of the press conference by the ECP, which has started looking into Chatha’s allegations.

The sources stated that after examining the transcript of the former Rawalpindi commissioner’s press conference, the committee will take testimony from the ROs and DROs of the Rawalpindi division.

They added that the special committee’s Terms of References (TORs), which were finalized yesterday, will document the remarks made by the representatives of the thirteen Rawalpindi seats in the National Assembly as well as the statements made by the representatives of the 26 provincial seats in the division, taking into account the transcript of the Chatha press conference.
