Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan signed the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement, promising to boost collective security, deepen defense cooperation and promote peace and stability in the area and beyond.
The agreement was signed at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah on August 7, 2026, during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defense, which was held following the visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, at the invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The accord was signed by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President Erdogan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and “reflects the three countries’ “shared commitment to further strengthening their collective security and to promoting peace, security and stability in the region and beyond.”
PACT IS COMPLETELY DEFENSIVE, TO ENSURE PEACE IN THE REGION
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement recently inked between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye is completely of defensive character and is designed at maintaining peace, stability and development in the area.
Talking to the federal cabinet, Prime Minister Shehbaz said he, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan inked the trilateral agreement in Makkah on August 7.
The prime minister said that the deal is not meant to be aggressive toward any country. “Definitely not for any aggression to take place. “It is purely for defensive purposes, for peace, tranquility and progress in the region,” he stated.
The prime minister said the accord would be a source of strength for the entire Muslim world and not only for Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye. He complimented especially Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir for signing the accord.
The prime minister said the efforts for the trilateral defense pact had been going on for several years and finally materialized in Makkah. He said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had inked a Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement in September 2025 while defense and security ties between Pakistan and Turkey had existed for decades.
