Water-starved Balochistan seeks release of allocated water from Sindh
Balochistan administration has issued a letter to Sindh government regarding steps for delivery of water allocated to the province under IRSA Agreement.
The letter has pointed out that Balochistan is experiencing acute water deficit in the Pit Feeder and Kherthar Canals.
The irrigation officials say Sindh is not releasing Balochistan’s share of water, earmarked under IRSA Agreement.
Engineer Mudassar Zafar Khosa, Superintendent of Irrigation Nasirabad Circle has written a letter to Sindh government, requesting Sindh government to take efforts for provision of water to Balochistan promptly.
The letter adds that the discharge of water in the Pit Feeder has come down from 6500 cusecs to 2725 cusecs and the supply of water in the Pit Feeder canal has come down by 58 percent.
Water is being diverted from the assigned share of Balochistan to the canal network of Sindh and there is a chance that rice agriculture may be hit hard owing to water shortage, said Mudassar Zafar Khosa.
The letter also recommended that an independent third-party monitoring be done to supervise the delivery of water.
