In honor of 75 years of tyranny and the ongoing fight for independence in the disputed region, Masarat Alam Bhat and Shabbir Ahmad Shah of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference have urged Kashmiris to observe August 5 as Black Day.
Kashmir Black Day, observed on August 5, honors India’s actions five years prior to the revocation of Articles 35a and 370 in occupied Kashmir, eliminating the region’s distinct status and incorporating it into India. This action provoked protests around the world against the atrocities committed by India in occupied Jammu & Kashmir and Pakistan.
Since then, Kashmiris have faced harsh restrictions, such as the Modi government’s 1.5-year suspension of telecom and internet services in an effort to quell unrest. Tensions in the area have increased as a result of India’s unilateral activities, which have disregarded the leadership and voices of Kashmir.
