For ninety days, Sindh prohibits the use of nets to capture birds in three districts.

indh has imposed a 90-day ban on the installation and use of nets to trap migratory and native birds in three districts around the lower Indus Delta, an official notification said on Sunday, as wildlife officials warn of widespread illegal hunting during the annual migration season.

The order, issued on Sunday by the Hyderabad Division administration under Section 144 of Pakistan’s criminal procedure code, prohibits fixing, installing, erecting, or using nets to capture quails, migratory birds and native birds in Thatta, Sujawal and Badin districts from Sept 13 to Dec 11.

The administration said wildlife authorities had reported illegal bird trappers operating actively around natural habitats and wetlands in these districts, as migratory birds begin arriving and the 2026-27 hunting season approached.

“We have taken various government departments and relevant authorities on board to address the issue, and this notification is part of it,” Javed Ahmed Mahar, chief of the Sindh Wildlife Department, told the media.

The three districts lie around the lower Indus Delta, a major wetland ecosystem at the southern end of the Indus River system.

The Indus Flyway is an important migration route for birds traveling between breeding grounds in northern Eurasia and wintering grounds further south, with the river and its wetlands providing feeding and resting habitat along the route.

Mahar said the Thatta-Badin-Sujawal region is the “last stop of the Indus Flyway for migratory birds” and among the areas most affected by illegal hunting.

“These districts are among the areas most affected by illegal hunting, with estimates suggesting that nearly half of the migratory birds are caught there,” the official said.

The annual arrival of migratory birds makes the wetlands particularly vulnerable to trapping. According to Mehar, illegal trapping and trade in the three districts has developed into a large-scale activity.

“The illegal trapping and trade of migratory birds through nets in these districts has effectively become an industry, with extensive hunting carried out through the installation of nets across the area,” he said.

Mehar said thousands of birds were trapped and traded illegally each year, with hunters sometimes using fraudulent permits. He also said some hunters use fake licenses bearing the signatures of deceased officials to pass through checkpoints while transporting captured birds.

The wildlife official said such licenses were fraudulent and that permission could not legally be granted to trap wildlife using nets. Mehar said the practice violated Pakistan’s national laws and international conservation commitments.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday brushed aside a report that Iran acquired satellite images of a base in Jordan from Chinese entities before ‌an attack that killed three U.S. troops there in July.

A recent report in the Wall Street Journal cited unnamed U.S. officials about the attack in Jordan. Asked whether he would mention the issue at an upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump did not directly answer, and instead equated the surveillance activities of China and the United States.

“They basically do what we do,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One. “When they say China spies on us, I say you’re right and we spy on them too.”

The Chinese and U.S. presidents are expected to meet in the United States on September 24, although China has yet to officially confirm ‌that the meeting will take place.

Trump on Sunday reiterated his view that he has a good relationship with Xi.

“I think he’s behaved reasonably well, and we behave reasonably well,” Trump said as he flew back to the United States after a weekend trip to Ireland.

The Wall Street Journal report, which Reuters could not immediately verify, said the U.S. officials declined to identify the Chinese entities that supplied the imagery to Iran and did not allege direct involvement by Beijing.

Trump’s comments appeared consistent with the administration’s recent efforts to play down wide-ranging tensions between Washington and Beijing, despite U.S. frustration over Beijing’s close ties to Tehran.

When the Indian women’s cricket team refused to take the championship trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi during the post-match presentation ceremony on Sunday, it caused a stir at the Women’s Asia Cup final.

After defeating the reigning champions Sri Lanka, the Indian players refused to collect the trophy from the ACC president, despite Naqvi being the main guest at the championship match.

The episode is reminiscent of the Indian men’s cricket team scandal from the previous year, when the players declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi during the presentation ceremony.

On the field, however, India put on a commanding display to defeat Sri Lanka by 72 runs and win the Women’s Asia Cup for the eighth time in history.
