PSX stages recovery as KSE-100 gains 1,300 points

There was an indication of bounce in the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday after a marked fall witnessed in the last session.

In the opening session of the stock exchange, the KSE-100 Index gained 1,315.72 points, which is 0.78% to reach the mark of 169,286.37 points. The highest point of the day was 169,988.11, whereas the lowest point was 169,189.29. The trading turnover in the market reached up to 25.60 million shares and the market was operating throughout.

This rise came after a sluggish performance of the stock exchange the previous day, when the KSE-100 Index fell 2,541.20 points, that is, 1.49% to end at 167,970.66 points, whereas the last closing was at 170,511.86 points.

In the previous session, the number of shares that were traded in the ready market was 570.472 million shares, compared to 687.467 million shares that were traded in the last session. The total trading value also fell to Rs24.672 billion from Rs33.705 billion. Market

State-owned companies reported a loss of Rs 342.8 billion over a six-month period.

– From July to December 2025, the total loss of loss-making state-owned enterprises was recorded at Rs342.8 billion, while profitable state-owned enterprises earned a profit of Rs423.3 billion.

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises was held under the chairmanship of the Finance Minister, in which the performance of SOEs was reviewed.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the government has provided support of Rs804 billion to SOEs, during this period the government received Rs839 billion from government agencies.

According to the announcement, overall, state-owned enterprises provided a net financial profit of Rs35 billion.

The committee directed for improving financial discipline in government institutions and reducing dependence on public resources.

It also directed for accelerating reforms in institutions that are continuously incurring losses.

The meeting also reviewed the operational weaknesses, circular debt, and financial risks of the power and infrastructure sectors.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the committee appreciated the progress made in the digital monitoring system of the performance of SOEs.

The meeting also approved the appointment of independent directors on the board of the Printing Corporation of Pakistan.

The government has raised the cost of petrol by Rs. 4.42 per liter and diesel by Rs. 6.10 per liter.

There has been an increase in the prices of the petroleum products by the federal government, resulting in an increase in the prices of petrol and diesel.

According to a notice issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs 4.42 per litre and diesel by Rs 6.10 per litre.

Therefore, the new prices of petrol and diesel would be as follows:

Petrol: Rs 380.24

Diesel: Rs 409.42

It has been stated in the notice by the Petroleum Division that the new prices will come into effect from 15 September 2026 and will continue to operate for one day only.

This increase in prices is expected to put extra pressure on the budget of the citizens at a time when people are facing rising living costs.

The citizens have shown concern regarding the high fuel prices and have said that this would make it difficult for them to manage their expenses. Some respondents have commented that the high cost of living has already created difficulties for the citizens to fulfill their basic requirements.

How to take advantage of the new scheme’s Rs. 100 per liter petrol discount

The Ministry of Information Technology has issued the procedure for obtaining Rs100 per litre petrol relief for motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqis and small cars.

According to the ministry, citizens must first register for the relief scheme. To register, applicants need to send REG, followed by their CNIC number, to 9771 via SMS. They must also provide their vehicle number, provincial code and registration date.

Eligible citizens will then need to obtain a fuel token to purchase petrol at the discounted rate. For the token, applicants must send TOK to 9771 via SMS.

The fuel token received in response must be presented to obtain petrol at the subsidised price.

According to the ministry, the petrol relief scheme will begin in Islamabad from the night between Monday and Tuesday, while residents of other parts of the country will be able to avail the relief from the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

Under the scheme, eligible citizens will receive a Rs100 per litre discount on petrol.

Motorcycle and Qingqi users will be eligible for the discount on up to 20 litres of petrol per month, while owners of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc will receive the discount on up to 30 litres per month.
