ISPR: Six terrorists killed in raid in Lower Dir

Officials said six terrorists were killed in a clash between police and militants in the Brichar region of Talash, Lower Dir.

The operation was jointly undertaken by district police, Elite Force and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in mountainous Brichar area, authorities said.

The dead militants were involved in several incidents, including an assault on a police roadblock and the killing of a police official, authorities claimed. The killed militants have been named as Khalil-ur-Rehman, Naeem-ud-Din and Kifayatullah.

The CTD claimed that six Kalashnikov weapons and three hand grenades were retrieved from the militants. Their escaping accomplices are still being sought.

The Inspector General of Police said operations against terrorism will continue till complete elimination of militancy from the province.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has appreciated successful operation in Lower Dir and hailed professionalism and courage of Counter Terrorism Department and police.

He claimed the security forces stopped the “evil designs” of the militants and he takes satisfaction in the heroism of the CTD and police men.

Today, Wednesday, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to convene in order to view the Safar-ul-Muzaffar 1448 Hijri crescent. The conference will take place in Islamabad, according to a Ministry of Religious Affairs spokesperson. Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad will preside over it.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry on Wednesday to talk about issues pertaining to the Ministry of Interior and the general political and security landscape of the nation.

In the early hours of Wednesday, rain in Lahore and surrounding areas provided residents with much-needed respite after the day’s extreme heat.

A number of the Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (LESCO) feeders tripped as a result of the early-morning rain, leaving large parts of the city without power.

Details show that Defence, Ghazi Road, Ferozepur Road, Walton, Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Gulshan Ravi, Jail Road, Gulberg, Garden Town, Kalma Chowk, Sanda, and other areas of the city recorded rain.

The rain is expected to continue today, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
