Opposition decides to consult on govt’s proposal for APC: Fazl
Opposition parties have chosen to meet and discuss the government’s plan to hold an All Parties Conference (APC), according to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI).He made this statement during a press conference held with other opposition leaders on Wednesday.
Fazlur Rehman emphasized that democratic and political groups support dialogue and that the opposition does not fundamentally reject the process of discussion.
However, he voiced worries that the government’s stance is making it harder to have constructive talks in the future.
The JUI leader also pointed out that long processions and demonstrations are acceptable forms of political and democratic expression.
He mentioned that if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) decides to organize a march towards Islamabad, it should, in principle, be permitted.
He noted that he had held a short meeting with other opposition parties to talk about the current political climate, which he described as being out of balance.
He also mentioned that how the government interacts with the opposition should be considered.
Fazlur Rehman highlighted that discussions must be carried out in a political manner and without interference from hidden or behind-the-scenes groups.
He said that successful talks can only happen if both sides are willing to compromise.
Concerning the government’s proposal for an APC, Fazlur Rehman said he would talk to his party about it, while he also encouraged other opposition parties to thoroughly review the proposal.
He said that if the APC is organized, all political parties should work together to create a shared plan and set of actions.
He believed such an effort could help bring more balance to the political scene and give a chance to solve important national problems through conversation.
Fazlur Rehman said, “We are all Pakistanis,” and added that no one’s loyalty should be doubted.
He also stated that the opposition supports the Constitution and the country and will work for the nation’s benefit.
At the same time, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas expressed his desire to invite all political parties to the proposed APC.
He voiced concerns about the country’s economic and security conditions and urged politicians to come together to address the issues facing the nation.

FBR proposes new procedure for inclusion in Active Taxpayers List
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a new process for including taxpayers in the Active Taxpayers List (ATL), enabling certain individuals who submit their latest income tax returns after the due date to be added without having to pay a surcharge.
As per the documents released by the FBR, the tax authority has presented a draft of additional amendments to the Income Tax Rules, 2002, which suggest modifications to the current process for being included in the ATL.
According to the proposed procedure, an individual who files their income tax return for the most recent tax year after the prescribed or extended deadline may be eligible for inclusion in the ATL without having to pay the applicable surcharge, provided they meet specific conditions.
The proposed mechanism requires the taxpayer to submit an undertaking via the Iris system using the prescribed ATL Form under sub-section (3) of Section 182A of the Income Tax Ordinance.
As stated in the draft, a person who files the latest tax year’s income tax return after the due or extended date and submits the necessary undertaking through Iris might have their name added to the ATL without the need to pay the surcharge.
The proposed changes are intended to offer a pathway for taxpayers who miss the filing deadline but later complete their tax return and fulfill the required declarations.
The FBR has invited input and suggestions from stakeholders on the proposed amendments.
Any feedback can be submitted to the board within seven days of the notification being published in the official Gazette.
These amendments are part of the FBR’s ongoing efforts to review and improve tax administration processes and provide clearer guidelines regarding the status of taxpayers who file returns after the statutory or extended deadline.
The Active Taxpayers List plays a significant role in Pakistan’s tax system, as being on the ATL can influence the withholding tax rates applicable to individuals and businesses on various transactions.
However, the final process will be determined by the amendments that are approved and officially communicated by the FBR after considering the feedback received from stakeholders.
