The family of slain Mir Raza has rejected the Sindh government’s decision to form a judicial commission and demanded the constitution of a joint investigation team (JIT) to investigate the case.

Speaking to the media at the Sindh High Court, the family’s lawyer, Jibran Nasir, said they learned about the decision to form a judicial commission through the media and had not yet received a copy of the government’s decision. He said a High Court judge was reportedly being nominated for the commission, while no one knew the terms of reference.

Jibran Nasir said a judicial commission could provide findings, which the family did not support as the priority should be a proper investigation. He questioned why evidence had allegedly been lost and said no action had been taken against the officials concerned.

He said the family had also written to Sindh Chief Minister regarding the matter. According to Nasir, a JIT comprising officials from different institutions should be formed to investigate the Mir Raza case.

He said the family was filing a petition in this regard, adding that the investigating officer had appeared before a magistrate but had neither nominated anyone nor indicated that a supplementary charge sheet was expected.

Jibran Nasir said that if action was being taken against the previous investigation team, the family should also be informed about it. He said they were unaware whether any questions had been asked of the previous investigation team and were trying to obtain answers to questions that remained unresolved.

He said none of the family’s 24 questions had been answered, including questions relating to geofencing and other aspects of the investigation. He added that the family could not point fingers at any judge and had not recommended the formation of a judicial commission in its August 19 letter.

The lawyer said the final footage had still not been shared with the family. He added that footage from two cameras installed at a showroom had also not been provided, while there was still no information about the motorcycle or the Alto car involved in the case.

Jibran Nasir said the matter should be properly taken towards the formation of a JIT so that the unresolved questions surrounding the investigation could be addressed.

federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar claimed that the rescue party sent to retrieve the body of Dr Asma from Spantik Mountain in the Karakoram range had to return owing to bad weather circumstances.

The team was close to near Camp-3 when heavy snowfall and strong winds forced it back to Camp-2, the minister stated in a post on social media platform X.

High altitude porters were supposed to reach Camp-3 and bring down the body to the base camp but inclement weather delayed the retrieval operation.

A helicopter had been given permission and the Gilgit-Baltistan administration and FCNA had established cooperation, while other plans were also in place, Tarar said.

“We will do whatever can be done in these circumstances,” he was quoted as saying.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was being kept updated on the situation, the minister said.

Three policemen were hurt here on Sunday as a demonstration against protracted power shutdown and finally suspension of water supplies got violent in Manghopir, near New Nazimabad.

The demonstrators stopped roads and obstructed traffic to protest against frequent power outages and scarcity of water which made their lives terrible.

Police were deployed in the vicinity of the demonstration to check any untoward incident. But the outraged mob grew aggressive and caught hold of three policemen and gave them a hard thrashing. Consequently they were injured. They were identified as Head Constable Saad Gul, Constable Shehbaz and Arsalan.

The demonstrators raised shouts and torched tyres against protracted and unscheduled power shutdowns and water shortages. They stated they were passing through mental and bodily tribulation and discomfort owing to power interruption and requested relevant authority to redress their complaints.
