The Supreme Court will hold a full court reference to pay homage to Justice Musarrat Hilali on her retirement and appreciate her services to the judiciary.

The reference will be held on August 7 at 10:30 am in Courtroom No 1 of the Supreme Court, a notification issued by the Supreme Court said.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, Supreme Court judges, Attorney General for Pakistan, leaders of the Pakistan Bar Council, the Supreme Court Bar Association and members of the larger legal fraternity will attend the event.

During reference speakers will highlight services of Justice Musarrat Hilali in judicial and legal domains and her services in public service.

The Supreme Court has formally issued notification of full court reference to mark the end of Justice Hilali’s service at the supreme court.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved in principle the establishment of modern Green Industrial Economic Zone in the province while announcing a special incentives package for local and international businesses.

The decision was taken at a meeting between the chief minister and a delegation of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF). OPF Chairman Syed Qamar Raza briefed the chief minister about the proposed project which will build a world class green economic zone through collaboration between OPF and Green Energy Group.

The proposed zone is intended to boost clean energy, industrial expansion, exports and job possibilities. The project has moved forward with renewable energy infrastructure plans, including solar, wind, hydro, ground-source energy, battery storage, and high-voltage backup systems, to deliver sustainable power solutions for companies.

The briefing said that the project would provide more than 18,000 direct and indirect jobs, annual revenues of over Rs5.6 billion and environment-friendly exports. The project is also expected to help promote Pakistan’s economic growth and reduce carbon emissions in accordance with net-zero aspirations.

“Punjab is open for investment from all sectors and we assured the investors of the full support of the government,” said Maryam Nawaz. “We have introduced a zero time to start policy to support new industries and businesses. A one window system has been introduced to fast track the processing of necessary approvals and permissions,” she said.

The chief minister said the provincial administration was aiming to build a secure and investor-friendly environment devoid of administrative barriers. “The government’s vision is to make Punjab a hub of green industries, development of clean energy and international trade activities,” she added.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is the “most powerful minister” in the federal cabinet, the defence minister has said, adding that he is not answerable to the prime minister on various topics.

In a TV interview, Asif remarked that while Naqvi was the interior minister, he did not seem to be fully incorporated into the cabinet structure. “I have seen Naqvi in only two or three cabinet meetings,” he said.

The defence minister also stated Naqvi had attended Parliament only a handful of times, adding that if the interior minister himself was voicing displeasure with the current system, “then perhaps we should all go home”.

Asif’s words followed Naqvi’s previous comments that Pakistan’s governance system had grown too weak to adequately deal with the country’s difficulties. The interior minister has cautioned that if the current structure remains in place the country could still be dealing with the same challenges ten years down the line.

Naqvi also said that for better governance and for the sake of long-term growth of the country, it has now become necessary to create new administrative divisions or provinces. He said the present structure has become ineffective.
