— Pakistan appealed for moderation, continuous conversation and diplomatic engagement to de-escalate growing regional tensions at a United Nations Security Council meeting on the situation in Iran.

“Rising tensions in the region serve no one’s interest”, and therefore all efforts should be made to bring the parties back to the negotiating table, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, told the Security Council, addressing his concern over the recent escalation.

He said that the only realistic option to resolve the disputed issues peacefully and durably is via diplomacy and persistent negotiations and called on all sides to be patient and not take steps that would further damage regional peace and stability.

Pakistan continues to back constructive diplomatic efforts for de-escalation, establishing a ceasefire and advancing enduring regional stability, the ambassador added.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad also urged all parties to avoid statements or actions that could cause misunderstandings during sensitive negotiations, emphasizing that the focus should be on the effective implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which he described as a roadmap to the settlement of outstanding issues through dialogue.
