A man who prevented a suicide attempt has been nominated for the highest civil prize.

A railway worker who lost his life while thwarting a suspected suicide attack along the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border has been nominated for Pakistan’s highest civilian award.

Muhammad Liaqat Ali was celebrated as a national hero after he allegedly thwarted a suspected suicide bomber near a police checkpoint in Jand tehsil of Attock district on Monday, preventing a significant terrorist incident.

Local residents reported that Liaqat Ali was tending to animals near the checkpost when he observed suspicious behavior and challenged the assailant. His prompt intervention allegedly averted significant casualties, albeit he perished in the incident.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz honored the deceased, stating that his sacrifice exemplified remarkable bravery and patriotism. She declared that Liaqat Ali would be proposed for the nation’s highest civilian honor in acknowledgment of his valor and dedication to the country.

The chief minister stated, “Individuals such as Liaqat Ali are the genuine heroes of Pakistan,” noting that he exemplified the utmost sacrifice by giving his life for the safety of others.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the valor of the deceased railway employee, asserting that the entire nation honors his bravery and sacrifice in the struggle against terrorism.

The funeral prayers for Liaqat Ali were conducted at Police Lines Attock, attended by numerous top officials, police officers, and local citizens. A police unit provided a guard of honour at the funeral ceremony.

The Federal Minister for Railways, Hanif Abbasi, sent sympathies to the grieving family and pledged them of governmental assistance. He declared a financial settlement of Rs8 million for the family and stated that the railway government will support them.

The dead is survived by his wife, two boys, and one daughter.

Kisan Card initiative changing lives of farmers: CM Maryam

More than 8,32,000 farmers in Punjab have been handed Kisan Cards, according to official estimates.

The statistics revealed that these farmers together took agricultural loans worth Rs 2.54 billion under the scheme.

Farmers have used the Kisan Card facility to purchase agriculture inputs worth Rs100 billion during the wheat season and Rs90 billion financial support has been offered for the Kharif crop season.

Besides this, the programme has provided inputs worth Rs 30 billion for almost 300,000 farmers.

Officials claimed over 86% of the Rs67 billion recovery target has been accomplished among 538,000 farmers who are bound to repay Rs67 billion and Rs57 billion has been previously repaid in installments.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that Kisan Card plan is changing the fate of farmers and they will no longer have to depend on intermediaries and will be stepping towards financial independence and success.

She also lauded farmers for timely repayments and called it as “good example” of accountability and progress.

Pakistani actress and model Merub Ali recently shared that she had to undergo surgery for a finger problem that resulted in limited movement and frequent locking that made it difficult to do daily duties.

Merub posted an update on social media on her health, saying the first visits with a rheumatologist and neurologist cleared her of any significant issues but an orthopaedic surgeon recommended surgery.

The process, which she underwent at Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi, proved to be more complicated and time-consuming than she had imagined.

Now back home, Merub is recovering slowly and has asked her admirers for prayers. Other celebs, like Mahiran Khan, Dure-e-FIshan Saleem, Sana Fahad and Rabia Kulsoom also wished her well. Social media users also told her to take rest and not use her phone too much so her finger would not get strained.

Fans pointed out that such illnesses can occasionally be caused by frequent hand use or sporting activities and sent her their best wishes for a full recovery.

Rain lashes city, nice weather in Lahore

The province capital Lahore and its surrounding areas saw lovely weather early Wednesday morning as strong winds along with rain lashed the region.

The rain that began in the early hours of Wednesday also disrupted electricity in parts of Lahore as numerous feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripped, creating discomfort to the people.

Details said rain was reported from Defence, Ghazi Road, Ferozepur Road, Walton, Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Gulshan Ravi, Jail Road, Gulberg, Garden Town, Kalma Chowk, Sanda and other areas of the city.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has anticipated that the rain spell will continue today.
