Azam Nazir Tarar: Petrol quota, other perks slashed for ministers
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazir Tarar said the petrol quota for federal ministers has been slashed drastically as part of the government’s austerity effort.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, Azam Nazir Tarar claimed that the monthly allotment of ministers has been decreased from 400 litres to 200 litres. The government has adopted a number of measures for the reduction of expenditure and the improvement of financial discipline.
The austerity drive has led to a dramatic reduction in the privileges and amenities of federal ministers.
There is no scope for more incentives for federal ministers under the current strategy, he said. He stated if anybody has any problem to the 200-litre fuel monthly quota, additional negotiations can be made in this regard.
The Federal Law Minister stated the administration would ensure better use of national resources and reduction of wasteful expenditures. The goal is to adopt austerity measures in various ministries and government agencies.
Azam Nazir Tarar said the reduction in government expenditure will not only lessen pressure on the national exchequer but will also help build financial discipline.
The minister said that the government has already cut down various privileges being availed by ministers and top officials and further steps will be examined under the austerity strategy in future.

US-Iran deal will pave road for permanent peace in region and beyond: Dar
Pakistan has warmly welcomed the deal reached between the United States and Iran, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said on Monday.
“We look forward to the formal signing ceremony on 19 June in Geneva and remain confident that this positive development will pave the way for lasting peace, stability and shared prosperity for the region and beyond,” he wrote in a post on X.
“Today’s significant breakthrough is a testament to the power of sustained diplomacy and the shared determination of our allies to choose dialogue over confrontation,” he said on X.
It also sends a reassuring message to the international community and brings much needed trust and stability to global markets and the world economy, especially for poor countries most vulnerable to regional instability.
Pakistan remains actively engaged with all interested parties and constantly urged caution and constructive engagement in this regard, reiterating that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable options for the resolution of any concerns.
“We appreciate the confidence that leaders in both the United States and Iran have placed in Pakistan and appreciate their willingness to remain engaged in seeking a peaceful and negotiated resolution.”
“We also thank the support and sincere diplomatic efforts of our brotherly countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt and others, as well as the United Nations and our international partners who remained closely engaged throughout this process and helped realise this important milestone,” the post read.
As negotiations on unresolved issues continue, Pakistan is ready to support every effort to consolidate this progress.

High level delegation will accompany Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Geneva to witness the event of signing of agreement between Iran and United States, official sources said.
Sources say the ceremony of the Iran-US agreement will be conducted in Geneva and an initial memorandum of understanding will be signed on Friday. Then talks will continue for 60 days on Iran’s nuclear programme, lifting of sanctions and other main topics.
US, Iran reach preliminary deal to stop war, sign Friday
The first deal would need a pause to military operations on all fronts and the resumption of marine traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, Arab media said. But some US politicians have warned that the two sides’ different interpretations of the pact could cause disputes in the future.
Former US President Donald Trump congratulated both sides and noted that the agreement with Iran has been completed. In a statement he made, he declared that the US naval blockade on Iranian ports has been lifted and worldwide shipping operations should restart.
He also indicated that oil supply routes and the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened when a truce is signed on Friday. “We will also work to clear the Strait of Hormuz of mines” as part of the accord, he said.
